Nullsleep is Jeremiah Johnson. Living in Manhattan, New York. Attended Columbia University School of Engineering & Applied Science. Nullsleep creates powerful romantic pop using repurposed low-bit electronics in a relentless search for new ways to circumvent their limitations. Bittersweet melodies and driving, rhythmic pulses are coaxed out of small plastic devices to produce a surprisingly intense sound. In 1999 Nullsleep cofounded 8bitpeoples, a collective of artists interested in the audio-visual aesthetics of early home computers and video game consoles. He has since released a number of recordings through 8bitpeoples, Astralwerks, Aniplex and others. Based in New York City, Nullsleep has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia, including the 20-date International Chiptune Resistance world tour in 2006. |

KyotoSapian is a solo chiptune project started in January 2008 by Joe Norman. Since it’s inception, KyotoSapian has seen a steady — though seemingly rather swift — increase in technique and overall performance. An example of his quickly acquired ability is the inclusion of one of his early tracks on a chiptune music compilation release alongside, notably, Alec Empire, who is performing under the moniker Nintendo Teenage Robots for the compilation. Currently, Joe produces music primarily on a classic 1989 modified Dot Matrix Gameboy and the LSDj Gameboy software produced by Johan Kotlinski, which is an arguably common (yet respected) setup for a lot of chiptune producers. Joe does however reserve himself to implement new tools and software into the mix during his progression in production as he deems necessary. The title KyotoSapian itself was inspired by the track entitled Tokyo Boy on Sabrepulse’s Verão release, and a general interest in Japanese culture. Chiptune-wise, his other influences include USK, Maru, We Are The Future, and DJ Scotch Egg. |
